Honouring D-Day At Maples Care Home

On 6th June 1944, we took time together at Maples to remember one of the most important days in history. D-Day marks the moment when Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, showing extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the fight for freedom. It was a day of reflection, gratitude and remembrance for everyone in our home.
While we enjoyed taking photos together to mark the occasion, we also paused to think about those who served and the lives that were changed forever. Remembering the bravery of those who fought is something that means a great deal to many of our residents and staff.

We were delighted to welcome Peter and his wife Chris, who kindly gave their time to help bring the memories of 1944 to life. Dressed in their own vintage costumes, they shared personal memorabilia and spent time reminiscing about D-Day with our residents. Their kindness, knowledge and willingness to share their memories made the day even more meaningful.
It was a wonderful opportunity for residents to reflect, chat and remember together in a warm and respectful setting. We are very grateful to Peter and Chris for making the day so special and for helping us honour the courage, sacrifice and lasting legacy of those who served.
