The annual Memorial Service at Maples celebrating the lives of those residents sadly lost over the past year took place on Sunday 29th July 2018. The plan was for the service to take place bathed in sunshine in the garden, where family members had been invited to write the names of their loved ones onto heart shaped slate to adorn the memorial wall. However despite the recent heat wave, on the day the heavens had opened with some much-needed rain. Spirits were not dampened and the service moved indoors and was all that it had aspired to be.

With the local Vicar Sue conducting the service, it also saw the return of Kath from the Activity Team to conduct a reading along with Karen a current member of the team standing to read the emotional poem; My Memory Library by: Sarah Blackstone. Hymns were sung and loved ones remembered with fondness. It was also an opportunity for family members to return to the home and thank members of staff for the love and kindness shown to their relatives.

The afternoon closed with refreshments and lots of cake. For those who were unable to attend on the day the little remembrance hearts were tied to the memorial fence by the staff.
