Amy Chandler, Administrator at Maples Care Home

Amy Chandler has recently joined Maples as our new administrator. Multi-talented Amy is not only an experienced receptionist and administrator, but she’s also a qualified hairdresser and a nail/laser technician!

Amy is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the office, working closely with Nicola Bundock, our home manager, to achieve the smooth and professional running of the home. Both Amy and administration assistant, Carmen Ho, are the first port of call for all visitors and telephone enquiries from relatives, professional visitors, colleagues and suppliers. As a seasoned professional receptionist and administrator, Amy relishes this part of her job.

Although there’s no such thing as a typical day in this fast-paced and busy role, there will often be at least one show-around with prospective residents and their relatives. Amy and Carmen also provide helpful information to families about how to apply for care assessments and funding. But what Amy really enjoys is the opportunity to get to know the residents well.

“I often check in on them, deliver their papers or TV magazines and have a chat,” she says. “It’s so easy to get attached to our residents and their lovely families. Maples is a friendly home and the staff are all incredibly supportive, too.”

Amy spent her childhood in Bermondsey then, aged 18, moved to Welling with her father. After leaving school she spent five years as a receptionist for a motor repair shop, before opting for a complete change of career to train as a nail technician and hairdresser. She took a five-year break to raise her young daughter, Amelia, then in 2016 she and the family headed off to Spain to live and work. There, Amy worked on the reception desk of a holiday villa rental company, meeting and greeting guests and doing show-arounds of the company’s luxury villas in the beautiful resort of Javea, on Alicante’s Costa Blanca. After her return to the UK, just before the pandemic, she worked as a laser technician and receptionist in a beauty salon before coming to Maples.

Away from work, Amy enjoys spending time with daughter Amelia, now 13, as well as her mother and fluffy cat Leo. Amy loves travelling and is also a member of her local David Lloyd club. When asked if she still cuts hair, she jokes that Amelia is the only recipient of her hairdressing skills these days!
