Congratulations! You have made the all-important decision to move into our home. You have had your pre-admission assessment with the home manager, your care plan is being drafted and how you are going to finance your care has been agreed. You and the home team have also decided on a moving-in date.
So, it’s now time to think about what you are going to bring into the home with you.
Your room is already furnished with an adjustable bed, lockable bedside cabinet, wardrobe, chest of drawers/dressing table and an armchair. We encourage you to bring in pictures, photos, ornaments, lamps and other treasured items to make your room your home-from-home. However, if you wish to bring in other large items, such as a favourite chair or desk, please check with the home manager first. And anything electrical, such as TVs or lamps, will need to be tested for safety by the home.
It’s best to bring clothes that you feel most comfortable wearing and are easy to put on and take off. You’ll probably need two weeks’ worth which will be laundered by our housekeeping team when needed. It’s also worth bringing in a few items for special occasions or outings, as well as for activities and exercising.
Please clearly name all your clothes. While we take great care with our residents’ clothes, we regret that we cannot take responsibility for those that are lost or damaged. If you cannot do this yourself the home may be able to provide this service for a small, one-off fee. We can also arrange to have dry cleaning done, although you will need to pay the costs yourself.
Everyone has their own favourite toiletries, so our advice is to bring in your usual brand of soap, shower gel, shampoo, moisturiser, toothbrush and toothpaste and so on, plus a flannel/facecloth. Family and friends can bring you replacements or the home may have extra supplies.
Many people bring in items such as a mobile phone, E-reader, tablet and a radio. We supply TVs but you may also wish to have your own, plus a DVD player. Don’t forget power leads and chargers!
These items are totally personal to you and include:
Bedding and towels are already provided, although you can bring these in if you wish – but they must be labelled with your name.
It’s never a good idea to bring in too many valuables, such as cash, jewellery or other treasured items that you would not wish to get lost or broken.
The home accepts no liability for any loss of cash or valuables and strongly recommend that you insure false teeth, reading glasses or hearing aids before moving in.
Our insurance covers residents’ personal belongings up to a limit of £1,000 for valuables per person and £100 for personal money. You’ll find more information about insurance in section 3.6 of our Terms and Conditions.
You may be moving ten minutes down the road or several hours away. Whatever the distance, it’s still advisable to pack carefully. Here are a few of our tips to ensure that your precious belongings remain safe:
