Exercise helps to maintain balance, strength and flexibility as well as prevent muscle loss which, in turn, can help prevent falls. Physical activity also leads to the release of certain mood-improving hormones, reducing the risk of mental illness, boosting energy and self-esteem and promoting better sleep.
Our residents’ abilities vary but our activities team gently encourages everyone to do at least some exercise each day. Some of our most popular activities include:
These gentle seated exercises help keep you mobile and are great fun!
We encourage residents to walk around the home or garden (with or without the use of aids).
Many residents once grew flowers and their own fruit and vegetables. We encourage their involvement in light gardening – sowing seeds, repotting and watering plants and arranging flowers.
In fine weather we arrange games in the garden and organise events such as BBQs or garden parties. Often, residents simply like to sit outside in the fresh air and sunshine, enjoying tea and home-made cake with family or friends!
Our residents love music, so we organise sessions with visiting singers as well as our own karaoke, group sing-alongs or instrumental jams, and many can’t resist getting up to dance!
Our group meals out and trips to local shops and attractions are always popular. Some residents like to go out on a 1:1 basis, so we can arrange that too.
